Conor Clarke | Trenton Garratt | Mark Henley | Veronica Manchego | Cam O’Connell

Daire Sanat (Istanbul) hosts a group show of New Zealand Artists working abroad. Drawn from practice in Berlin, NYC and Istanbul I COULD HAVE SWORN I, is a multimedia show exploring the inconsistency between fact, and the memory of the fact. Prosthetic memory and Phantom Limb Syndrome couple to create the shows curatorial focus; how we perceive ‘experience’ within a media saturated reality.

The show is facilitated by Mark Henley (The Russian Frost Farmers, NZ) and made possible by generous support from Hall architectural interiors (Istanbul)

Full curatorial text and artist bio’s available here.

Opening     : 10th August, Tuesday / 19:00 / Daire Sanat
Artist talk  : 14th August, Saturday / 16:00 / Daire Sanat

URBAN REVERBERATION

RODEO GALLERY, ISTANBUL -

Rodeo’s clinical gallery space gives way to a ’sensory bout’ in the current duet show, CAN ALTAY / IMAN ISSA. The monotonously timed blinking of Issa’s Triptych #5 competes with Altay’s booming kinetic / sound work, Deposit (Spring Deficit: After Dubai, After Hammons and after the politics of white noise).
.
Upon the surrounding walls hang Iman Issa’s series of six triptychs. Consisting of varying mixtures of photograph, object and video the works sit as choices; combinations. Ones personal preference in someway will speak of his of her individual personality traits. The works detail snapshots of times / places on foreign soil yet holding reminders of the artist’s personal histories. In opposition, Atlay’s impressive circular horizontal mirror stands solo. The crisp surface is cleanly broken by an inlayed speaker cone. The speaker holds its ‘deposit’, in this case sand of varying grain size, constantly circulating due to the vibration of the cone as it promotes its deep base lines. The graphic nature of the morphing patterns within the liquid like sand hint toward the choreographed dances of monumental water fountains the world over. This reference to the contrived nature of ‘monuments to urbanity’ is succinctly played upon through the material juxtaposition of water versus sand. A valuable rarity replaced by common surplus material; are the ‘castles made of sand’ perhaps.
.
The two artist’s work sit as a comparative dialogue revolving about contemporary urban environs. Issa’s personal traditions reveal an intimate perspective whilst Altay’s singular work reflects the stereotyped views of many, simultaneously mirroring those mind-sets back at his audience.

Prescribing pixel prozakc

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

I thought it was about time to introduce Dr Omar, prescriber of the pixel prozakc. The good doctor brings new vision to the world to counter the normal everyday existence and discredit the falsified light of corruption. Dr Omar has been spotted reigniting the pixels at http://prozakc.wordpress.com/after a serious stint of prescribing gamma ray remedies http://prozakc.wordpress.com/no-they-cant/ ~c~ Ralph NashawatyDr Omar
