NEW ZEALAND ARTISTS ABROAD 10.08.2010 – 04.09.2010
Conor Clarke | Trenton Garratt | Mark Henley | Veronica Manchego | Cam O’Connell

Daire Sanat (Istanbul) hosts a group show of New Zealand Artists working abroad. Drawn from practice in Berlin, NYC and Istanbul I COULD HAVE SWORN I, is a multimedia show exploring the inconsistency between fact, and the memory of the fact. Prosthetic memory and Phantom Limb Syndrome couple to create the shows curatorial focus; how we perceive ‘experience’ within a media saturated reality.

The show is facilitated by Mark Henley (The Russian Frost Farmers, NZ) and made possible by generous support from Hall architectural interiors (Istanbul)

Full curatorial text and artist bio’s available here.

Opening     : 10th August, Tuesday / 19:00 / Daire Sanat
Artist talk  : 14th August, Saturday / 16:00 / Daire Sanat

BILLY T’ - CONSPIRACY

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

1988202nortec-collective-tijuana-sessions-vol-3

The shades don’t disguise the fact. Billy T’ is alive and kicking to a new beat. Holed up in Mexico, James makes ends meet with his alter ego, a ‘Mexican Bandit’ the Tainui Kid from ‘85 cult hit Came a hot Friday (watch) . Here he is featured on the cover of Nortec Collective’s (listen) 2005  release ,Tijuana Sessions Vol.3. Their blend of Mexico and Techno takes the accordian into yet to be defined territories. Shame Billy T’ didn’t tour with them to WOMAD, New Plymouth this year… next time huh.

Boom Buddha Boom…

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Painted 14 balusters (from Italian balaustra - Pomegranate flower) of a stairwell. Spiraling the brush in that repetitious manner that comes with the painters meditation. Soundtrack “throbbing gristle - the meme is the message”. Delivered by a Buddha Machine - loop samples that melt with a pitch control. Discovered this installation of 1000 in Rome - photos only - absence of sound samples like the tree in the forest that no one heard falling - (although I’m calling and will let you know if found). Audio consolation  - a beautiful Buddha Machine and Piano composition by Peter V. Stevens.

BLACK BONED ANGEL, LIVE 26TH JUNE AT THE FARMERS

Monday, June 21st, 2010

1524239416_l

BLACK BONED ANGEL is CAMPBELL KNEALE and JAMES KIRK

They produce a kind of transcendence as if time stopped and all the pylons in outer suburbia gathered together all the heaviest metal band albums from under every Iron Maiden t shirt wearing long hairs nose, flew them to Scandinavia and feed them to Agorogoths brain while he was in a mental hospital that he came out shitting his pants to thought of having to milk one of his own goats again.

What Im trying to say is that im not as bad ass as I guy called Agorogoth from some mountainous Scando village but i reckon he would be impressed with this amount of  impending Doom.

I have seen these guys live a couple of times and i always feel like im a leaf, being blown across an ocean, not sure were im gonna land or if ill ever even find land again.

If you have the stamina and like the word experience, you my friend are in for a treat because

BLACK BONED ANGEL are playing on the 26th June at THE RUSSIAN FROST FARMERS #2 Eva St, Wellington, 6pm, as part of PALIMPSEST a JAMES ROBINSON EXHIBITION.

An Interview with Toshiko Takaezu from D.B.Long on Vimeo.

I particularly like the idea of smashing one of the 6 footers and breathing in the fumes from 1967.

But really she’s great int she, sweet barn too.
